If you are looking to get some new tools for your garden, a trip to big chain stores can leave you confused and full of questions. There are aisles upon aisles of gardening tools available. From gloves and shovels to hand pruners and trowels, we are breaking down the most essential gardening tools for your kit.

Shovel –

No surprises here, the shovel is the most essential tool a gardener should have in their shed. It allows you to move large piles of soil, bark or other materials easily in addition to being able to dig around plants. When looking for a good quality shovel, inspect the connection of the metal to the pole as that is the weakest part.

Gloves –

There are many different types geared for different tasks, but a good pair of gloves is worth the investment. When looking for gardening gloves, look for ones that are heave duty and have extra protection and padding. While these might be slightly more expensive, they are worth their weight in gold when it comes to protecting your hands.

Trowel –

This little but mighty tool is the absolute essential to all gardeners. When picking one out, make sure it can multi-task. For example, look for one that has measurement marks to avoid a one-purpose tool. Get one with a serrated edge, this way you can open bags, cut weeds and planting. Don’t forget the handle – a rubber handle will be much more forgiving on your hands than a hard plastic or wooden handle.

Pruner –

Hint: comfort is key. Look for shears that are smooth and have a comfortable grip.

Leaf Rake –

The leaves have already started falling and the last thing you want is for them to cover your beautiful flowers and hard work. Enter the rake. This tool goes beyond leaves; it can safely remove debris around plants and lawns.
